Food Allergy

TESTING & TREATMENT

TESTING:

Allergy testing is performed either through a simple blood draw or through skin testing.  We offer one of the most comprehensive mold panels in the state.  We will also cover complete pollen, dust and animal dander testing.

Blood tests called RAST (Radioallergosorbent) or allergen-specific IgE Antibody test measure the amount of particular antibodies in your bloodstream know as immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies.  Your blood can be drawn the day of your appointment.  The testing is then performed in our office and is completed within 1-2 weeks.

Skin tests are performed by injecting a small amount of the allergen solution on the upper arm and is done in 2 sessions usually scheduled a week apart.

Igg Food testing is a blood test used to look for food sensitivities.  This panel will test for 96 foods and comes with a packet of information to help you first, eliminate any positive results, then rotate remaining foods

TREATMENT:

  • Our Allergy Specialist will first council you on environmental control measures to help reduce your exposure to any offending allergens we have detected.
  • Medication management can be utilized in conjunction with each treatment approach or recommended seasonally to control systems.
  • Immunotherapy (allergy treatment program) may be recommended when the above options are not enough to optimally control systems.  At Allergy Consultants, we are proud to offer two options for immunotherapy so that we can use the right program to meet your individual needs. **Our Allergy Program has a 70% - 90% success rate!
  • Allergy injections are given at both our Denver and Park Meadows offices.  They are given 1-2 times a week.  The initial phase is called the “Build-Up Period”. During this phase, each vial formulated increases in strength and each injection increases in dosage.  The next phase is called “Maintenance”. With this phase, your formula and dosage remain the same.  It is at this point that patients are presented with the option to go on home injections.  However, many of our maintenance patients choose to continue coming into the office to receive their injections.
    • Sublingual (under the tongue) allergy drops are also an available allergy treatment program.  These drops are taken at home, three times daily.
